What SACP members do...

We serve at least four functions
:

  • Provide 2 extra sets of eyes & ears for the RCMP

  • Help prevent crime by being visible in vulnerable areas
  • Use our uniforms & signage at Canoe Beach and parks as an obvious reminder about laws & bylaws
  • Enhance the community's sense of security and well-being by providing another "sign" of law-enforcement presence

Our major activities:

PATROLS

  • We always work in pairs for safety

  • We travel in vehicles but also on foot and bikes during summer    months

  • Flexible hours -- anytime between 1:00 pm and very early morning

  • We drive our own vehicles -- SACP provides signage and gas money

  • We patrol places such as parks, schools, malls, Industrial Park, and Canoe Beach in the summer

SPEED WATCH  We set up portable radar equipment and an electronic sign in school zones and at high-accident locations around town to give motorists instant feedback about their speed.

STOLEN  AUTO  RECOVERY  We download stolen-vehicle  information from the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) to check the license plates of parked vehicles

LOCK-OUT AUTO  CRIME We patrol public parking lots and leave notices to remind shoppers to hide away their valuables and to alert  vehicle owners if we notice that their insurance decals have expired.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES We man barricades and monitor crowds at various community events such as Holiday Train, Roots & Blues, and Haney House Spooktacular.

EMERGENCY DISASTER RESPONSES   A number of our members are trained to coordinate our response at times of civic emergencies such as floods, train derailments, and forest fires

SOCIAL EVENTS  We get together several times a year to build feelings of "togetherness" and teamwork
